Reviews

Our dictionary is hands-down the best available on iOS, but you don't need to take our word for it. Here is a complete, unedited list of every single customer review from every worldwide Apple App Store starting with the day of our product's introduction and going all the way up to the time of writing (March 27th, 2012):

Talking Thai - Really good dictionary! It helps especially with the audio pronunciations. Covers a wide range of words generally used both in Thai as well as English.

Oh dear Websters American English Dictionary - Before reviewing this product I was using "The Thai Translator" V1.3 a paid for app by Ncephalon Corp Ltd. My review on this product is posted on iTunes. A better product which I have just evaluated and am now using is the Paiboon Talking Thai which fixes most of the problems I have encountered. As a dictionary it is very good both the English to Thai part and Thai to English of the product. I have hardly used the phonetic one as this in itself is like learning another script language. Disappointingly it uses Webster American English dictionary rather than Oxford English dictionary and true British English.Using it with Thai people I find that the translations are very good and accurate. Moreover, there are several things that I find far better than previous products I have used before that allow me to rate Talking Thai higher. The key is text size. Thai language script is very small and you cannot see the tone marks clearly so as a Thai to English translator, to quote my optician you could easily mix up translations as the text is so small it is beyond 2020 vision. Talking Thai gives you the ability to resize the text which to me on top of being a good dictionary with good sound clear sound on each translation is key. It also gives you the choice of a different keyboard. It does not rely on the poor inherent keyboard of the iPhone which is quite difficult to use for Thai, as you have to slide your fingers using both hands for tone and vowel marks. The help files are extensive and give you very good support in the Thai language or where you might need some clarification. I am yet to find another product with such extensive help files.Ok, so what would I improve after using this one. Well, there are some words missing in the dictionary and I would like an Oxford English dictionary rather than the Webster American one this provides. Indeed it would be good to set to British English or American English in the translation. One word that does not exist as an example is "labour" instead you get "labor". If you don't understand American English and need British English you will find this product a little off putting. I would like to have a male voice as well as a female voice as I am male and pronunciation is slightly different from males. Some words are missing in proper definition such as manufacturing, niche(in business), not very for not really, few common phrases and some business English terminology. This is a weakness in the Webster American English Dictionary rather than the Thai side of the product.Overall its a product that if the English side was improved has good functions and extensive help.

Great - Very good. This has it all. Not cheap but worth the money.

Just The Best - In the past I have bought each of Paiboon's paper Thai - English dictionaries, then I used their excellent app on my Palm for three years. As soon as the Apple app became available I bought an iPod immediately just to have the ThaiDic app because it was even better than the Palm app ... three times the words, sound for the Thai words, and a fantastic word-within-a-word function that helps me learn and understand the associations of words; and many more features. The latest version has increased the word count another 50% and made the sound feature even easier with a one-touch icon on every word.I have been teaching English in Korat, Thailand for four years; I use the dictionary to show my students the English word and the Thai word in Thai script; it is used in every lesson. I am also learning Thai, and the dictionary is in use many times a day to remind me of meanings and pronunciation. Having it on my iPod makes it so convenient, and having it on my PC too is great for homework and translating Thai.I have bought other paper and electronic dictionaries, both Thai-English and English-Thai, but some are forgotten, and others are used very infrequently; the ability to search electronically in the Paiboon app; in English, Thai, and by sound for Thai words is unbelievably more efficient. It is so intuitive and easy to use that I have no hesitation to use it at any time.It is the best by a long way!

excellent apps for all level users - It should be much appreciated if the dictionary content can add more talking vocabulary and phrases for updating free.

Well Done!!! - Best apps for Thai dictionary I ever used. It allow 3 way search, by English, Thai script & Thai sound. It does help me a lot in searching for the unknown Thai words which I do come across.Voice is clear and text size can be adjusted.Best of all, no need Internet connection, save $$$ :p

Does what you expect, perfectly! - Having this and the Windows desktop app version has provided me with a perfect translation tool, and is great when in Thailand to be able to "speak" difficult words with the locals

Please upgrade and improve - 1) some vowels are still not found like - หิกุ (from katha).2) the speaker icon always freezes after using a few times.Reboot or reinstall doesn't help.3) no hand writing support?4) no OCR support?5) it doesn't help is it's a sentence or slang

The App I have been waiting for! - Was lucky to stumble on a review of this one yesterday and although at first I thought this was a little expensive for the app store, I will now start deleting ALL the other Thai dictionaries I have purchased for my iPhone/iPad.Fantastic is all I can say. Every little detail is included - even the (for me at least) hard to learn fonts that are so often used in commercial.Keep it up Paiboon - this is a winner

Worth it. - This is a very expensive app by Ipod/Iphone standards, but it is worth every penny if you spend more than a few days in Thailand, or if you work with Thais in your own country. It takes a little time to get use to the interface and how searches are done, but it is definitive in its various uses of words, both Thai and English. I used it nearly every day and stopped carrying my Thai dictionary. It does not have basic phrases, but the Amazing Thailand App, which is available for free, covers things like that, and the two apps together make an unbeatable combination. One wish would be for a favorites button or tool since it can take a bit of searching sometime to find the exact word you are looking for, being able to tag that as a favorite would make this great app even better. The history is one way to do that, but the history was not consistent enough to be able to use it to quickly find favorite words. It is good with a number of technical terms and with the Thai keyboard, I could hand it to my collegues in Thailand so they could type in a Thai word on the few times when they did not know the English translation. This was particularly handy when trying to identify plants in the field, including herbs.Again, the ability to save favorites is the only thing that is lacking from my view.

Great - Very good app

Talking Thai - only one thing to say if you are a non thai speaker or an advanced learner; this is the app to get - periode. Worth every penny!

Like it - Practical and worthy. 很不错!

Great update, but.... - I have been waiting for an update quite some time now, and many words and other useful features have been added, which is great. But what really disappoints me, there is STILL no bookmark feature for words included in this update. This can't be so hard guys, can it...?I hope I don't have to wait ANOTHER year for this...:((Otherwise well done and great job!!

PERFECT one! - Amazing! Perfect! Wonderful! Superior! :)I use this app for a long time during my visits to Thailand and I find this app the best one. Each owner of this program can feel free in talking with Thai people by using a native speaking dictionary and transcription.Wish to an authors a good health and a big luck :)Chok-dii! :)sadhu! sadhu! sadhu! :)

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ! - UPDATES ON FEB/2012: Now the dict contains more words (almost doubled)!I have been looking for such a Thai-English-Thai dictionary for months. This app is much better than what I expected. Worth the money. I would rate it as PERFECT!First of all, I can't read Thai. The "abc" pronunciation (which I call Karaoke language) such as "gin kao" is very useful for me. You can even select from some 10 types of such pronunciations in the Setting. The voice pronunciation is also clear and complete.I do not want to activate Apple's Thai keyboard. So I turned on the built-in Thai keyboard so that it is only available in this app.Every other features are as useful as advertised. The only thing to improve is to have more ords and examples. Many words still cannot be found. For example, "fan(M) thong(M)" which means "absolute".Highly recommended!

Best language dict ever - I've had an iphone for 3 years and downloaded oodles of apps, but this is the first review I've ever been moved to write, and for the priciest app I've ever bought. Worth every last penny. Simply excellent, and features such as Find Inside Words" really help you to have a better understanding of how the language is constructed, and therefore a closer feel for the culture. Brilliant, and can't fault it, and even at the price I think it is superb value.

A MUST HAVE! - A must have app for learners of the language. What appeals most to me is that the app works without an internet connection!

The best Thai - Eng - Thai dictionary! - Forget all other Thai language learner's or Thai dictionary apps! The other apps aren't even half as good as this one! They may be cheaper but the other apps are a waste of money. Believe me!This is totally worth the money! This app is nearly twice as expensive as the paper version but with this app you can hear the right pronunciation. And it actually fits into your pocket. You can even find words in phonetic Thai. These people know how to make a great learner's dictionary!Thank you for all the new features in the latest update!!!

The is the one everyone has been waiting for. - I don't normally write reviews on iPhone apps but i think this one really deserves it because of the hard work they have put into making it. If you want to learn the thai language then i think this is the best app around for doing this. Before this was released i had the programme for my PC which was very good so soon as i found out this was released then i purchased it straight away. I've removed all my other Thai language apps because you only need this one. Its worth the price and is very easy to use and comes with clear instructions on how to use the applications functions.

More than just a dictionary! - It's a great help in learning thai, and most important to get the pronunciation right! But please, please, please, add a bookmark feature for the future update. It is sad that you can't save specific words from the dictionary for a later review! This would increase the usefulness of this app 10 times!

Very useful and invaluable dictionary!! - Bought many books and 2 apps from this author (Thai for beginners app was also great!)This talking dictionary makes it very easy to listen and learn to pronounce the words. The English romanization system used is also excellent as it covers all the Thai alphabet sounds and tones accurately!Descriptions for word meanings are very descriptive and helps you find the correct entry for the context which you want to use it in.Thank you so much for making this app available on the iPhone! You definitely get what you pay for.Look forward to seeing "Thai for intermediate learners" app!!

Worth the scratch - I've been living in Thailand for a year now and I use this app every single day. Best feature: you can look up words not only in English and Thai, but also in transliterated Thai (for those who haven't yet learned Thai characters). The dictionary is very comprehensive as well and includes many compound words and short phrases. Highly recommended.

Great Learning Tool! - This application is really well done and worth the investment. Being able to hear the pronunciation of every word (as many times as you like) is so helpful for working on the tones. I like the variety of look up methods - English, Thai script, and phonetic - and have even enabled the Thai script keyboard on my iPad so I can type in words I see.One improvement idea I have would be the ability to create your own word groups within the app. Now there are a few pre-set groups for numbers or months or days of the week. But it would be very cool if I could make a group for colors or fruit within the dictionary so I don't lose the linkage to the pronunciation or modifier info. This would be especially helpful for people learning specialist vocabularies. Thanks for the great tool, making studying on your own more fun and productive!

The absolute best! - I tried a lot of Thai English dictionaries, but this is really the best one! I agree with the other positive reviews; this is my first written review, just to say how much i love this app. Also check out the other Benjawan app for learning Thai, i think both apps are worth the price!

Nice - Good application for learning basic Thai.

Overpriced - Dictionary is great with pronunciations and Thai spellings but the app is lacking because it does not include phrases or idioms which are commonly used in speaking Thai. For instance if you want to say something like "wait a moment" this app will not help you but it will give you the Thai word for moment and its spelling but not a phrase used in speaking. Would give 4 stars if price was $4.99 because it is an excellent dictionary but way overpriced at $24.95.

Wonderful ... While I had it :( - This was fantastically useful on my recent trip to Thailand! Thank You for such a great ap. unfortunately, my phone was stolen in Thailand. Is there anyway to get it replace? I didn't back it up to my computer...

Good dictionary - Dictionary is great with pronunciations and Thai spellings but the app is lacking because it does not include phrases or idioms which are commonly used in speaking Thai.

Easy, easy, easy…and POWERFUL - I have studied and speak four languages (Thai being the fourth), and this is BY FAR the best tool I have ever used. The title doesn't do it justice as it is so much more than a dictionary…even much more than a talking dictionary. The program includes helpful features like "Find Words Inside" (to quickly break down Thai compounds to roots), and an entire instruction book is included in the Help section explaining everything about Thai including pronunciation, spelling, grammar, and even the dreaded Thai classifier. And they even offer icons to help understand which words are "spoken" (colloquial), "formal," "used for or by royalty," "used for or by monks," and even "obscene" (e.g. the "bad words" are all included). Before I bought this, I was a little put off by the price tag, but having owned it for many months I think it is the best Thai tool available! I wish they would make this for Spanish and French, too!!!

No better Thai-English dictionary - I'm learning to speak Thai and this is an invaluable tool to help me with my pronunciation.Useful for both English and Thai speakers.

Brilliant - This is the one app I use again and again everyday, the ability to look up in English, Thai and Thai sound is invaluable. I thoroughly recommend for anyone serious about learning Thai. One thing that would be helpful would be to pull up a list of the common colloquial words, these are highlighted but cannot call up as a separate list.

a good product - but many words missing - I bought that dictionary three weeks ago and I examined it thoroughly. My judgement: A good product... a "should-have" for everybody who wants to study Thai language. But there is still much room for improvement: The number of entries in the dictionary is not sufficient and sometimes the speaker shows a regional accent in her voice - so sometimes it is not the perfect Thai voice it could be. But the sound is crisp and clear!!!Summary: The price is high but fair. The software is great, but the content is far below the level of the real professional Oxford River Books English-Thai.

excellent! - I wish I had this app already when I began learning Thai ten years ago- it would have saved lots of time.

Almost perfect - When I first bought this, upon my arrival in Thailand, I was disappointed. The app is not made for self-study and casual exploration of the language. However as I started studying with a teacher I've discovered just how amazing this app is. The genius lies in how it scales from first lesson beginner to intermediate.Firstly, it provides pronunciation guides to each word that can be set to follow any of the romanization systems of the textbooks you are likely to encounter. It even provides nifty ways to customize for a particularly quirky textbook you may pick up. Trust me, this is a big deal since there is no standardized way of romanization of Thai.Secondly, once you want to start learning the actual Thai alphabet, the dictionary allows you to see each word written in a variety of scripts. Again, trust me, some of the scripts used on menus and in 'cool' advertising can look completely bizarre! So a nice in between feature for when you are trying to just recognize a couple of key words.Thirdly, once you want to learn to write in Thai, again multiple options are provided to simplify, for instance by highlighting irregularities and showing where syllables start and end. Finally, for each word, a comprehensive explanation is provided of each word for why it is spelled the way it is, again this is awesome since Thai letters work so differently than roman ones. This is all so awesome, I wish I could live in this dictionary! Unfortunately, it is broken by a few deal-breakers. It's search function is pretty poor. It won't find terms inside longer words and expressions, so too often you have to piece together new vocabulary word by word. Also, no way to create dictionary lists. This should be such a no-brainer... This app is designed primarily for students, so not having this is unacceptable. It means I have to rely on other (lesser) apps or *shudder* on pen and paper. So my final verdict is, this is the best dictionary for learning Thai pronounciation, and a good support for learning reading and writing Thai. It is NOT a good everyday dictionary, nor does it quite become your central app for overall Thai learning sessions. Which is a shame since its 99% there...

Worth every penny even if just for tones! - Been learning Thai for 4 months. Had this app for one day and already it's solved my confusion with classifiers and helped me correct the tones of some of my basic words.Doesn't let you translate a whole phrase, or haven't found that yet, but even just to use for unknown lexis when forming sentences.Love it that you can type in words using English phonemes to match words you hear! So clever! already gifted it to two other friends - early Xmas presents!

Great great. Love it. - This is by far the best Thai mobile language guide. Love it. Get to hear every words spoken in Thai and the different meaning of each context. Will be even better if it will allow me to add the words that I want to refer into my favorite list. Please change the app icon :). Something more exciting so that it will look great among others.

Simply the Best! - This is really the ultimate Thai dictionary for me. Can find translations for nearly the whole Thai vocabulary, also made very professional with many help text for Thai language, letters, fonts and sounds. Me as a German guy, I can also brush up my English with it. I really like it and it's absolutely worth the price. Copying and pasting the words, I am also able to write little Thai letters. There is not anything you could have made better. :-)

Outstanding - This is an excellent product. The dictionary is huge. I can't think of an occasion in the 12 months I have been using this where it hasn't had the word. It has recordings of the Thai pronunciation for each word, which is critical for speaking good Thai.I particularly like the ability to look up words within a word. This has helped me to understand the language more quickly, and learn long words more easily. One suggestion....the ability to mark favorite words for review and/ or a flash card for favorites would help people like me who are learning new Thai vocabulary but need practice in learning words and testing pronunciation.Fabulous product!

So helpful - As an Englishman living in Thailand, this app has been invaluable. It isn't cheap but it's worth every penny if you are even slightly serious about learning the Thai language. I haven't seen another app that comes close to helping English speakers learn Thai (they all seem to be aimed at the vice-versa).Highly recommended!

Look no further - This is the Thai<~>English app I've been looking for. I love that it breaks Thai spelling into individual letters, making learning much easier. Well worth the money spent.

Great Stuff! - This is a wonderful program, which provides huge amounts of information in a very well-organized format. If you're using the Benjawan Poomsan Becker books for learning Thai it's especially wonderful, because its default romanization system is that of the Becker books. But, not to worry -- you can switch to something like a dozen different systems. I especially like the history feature, so I can go back and find what I had looked up previously. And the spelling and compound word construction assistance is incredible. We've found a few more words in this dictionary than in Becker's wonderful little printed dictionary. However, I would still say that the only major failing of this dictionary is the number of words. Hopefully, they will add more vocabulary for us to learn and use?

The best Thai - Eng - Thai dictionary! - This is totally worth the money! This app is nearly twice as expensive as the paper version but with this app you can hear the right pronunciation. And it actually fits into your pocket. You can even find words in phonetic Thai. It would be even cooler if it recognised what you said and could translate it into English but something like that doesn't exist yet for Thai language. These people know how to make a dictionary! Translation of the word "opal" is incorrect though...

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ! - I have been looking for such a Thai-English-Thai dictionary for months.

ดีครับ - อยากให้เพิ่มคำศัพท์เยอะๆนะครับให้คุ้มกับราคา

The very best! - This app is way better than all the other thai translating and thai learning apps. You can find any thai word with easy lookup features. By clicking on the word you'll hear the right pronounciation and, if you wish, the app explaines the tones of the word. This is the app I was looking for! Great!!!

Very Impressive - I've never written a review before, but felt obligated to do so now. Just spent 3 hours with this thing, and is remarkable. I haven't even touched all that is there yet. I've bought several well known Thai language books over the years, even one with CD attached, but this takes the cake! $25 might seem like a lot, but I figure will come out to a cost factor of pennies per hour of usage. Having been there many times, I can tell you that spoken word is true to what is actually spoken on the street. But also gives you formal alternatives, if needed. "You get what you pay for" is certainly a fact with this app. My hats off to the developer! Good Job.

Worth the baht - I don't normally write reviews, but this app is a tool that's too good to pass up. The pronunciations are clear and accurate. This dictionary tells you what words are outdated, impolite, vulgar, proper, and more commonly used. You can search for words in English, Thai script, or Thai sound(English characters). There is a section that goes over tones. You're also given a link to a website that records your voice for practice. The help section has a lot of information on things like the Thai alphabet and introductory words. Good luck with your new language. I hope this review helps. ลูกครึ่ง

Best ever - They thought of everything in this app. So many features it's unbelievable!

More than just a dictionary - A great and fantastic app. I found almost anything that I was looking for and it is so helpfull that you can hear how a word needs to be pronounced.

More than worth the cost - This review relates to Version 1.4, though I started using it under the prior version. This is not an inexpensive app. That said, it is the most used app I have on my iPhone.I live in Thailand and am taking an intensive Thai language program at one of the universities in Chiang Mai. When I first began, the ability to enter English words to look up Thai words was very helpful. Since there is no standardized transliteration for Thai, it was sometimes difficult after class to remember the pronunciation of a Thai word or its corresponding tones. The ability to hear the word spoken by a native speaker allowed me to hear the word properly pronounced and therefore filled an essential need. I have now reached the point where I can read and write the Thai alphabet. The app still remains essential to my study both in class and when I am studying on my own. While I have the author's paper dictionary (two copies, actually), they basically stay on the shelf at home since I always have the iPhone app with me.Despite the price, I would definitely buy it again and I recommend it often to my fellow students that have iPhones. I am hoping they finally come out with a desktop version for the Mac. Unfortunately the desktop version the have now only works on Windows.

Good apps - Very good apps. Highly recommended

Expensive but amazing... - ...as everyone else has already said. Well worth the money and vastly superior to all other Thai dictionary apps.

Amazing - Not realy one fro going in deep with reveiws. This software is amazing, each word is spoken aloud to you by a thai speaker. One thing i would like to request is that verb conjugations be included for I, You, We... -ing, -ed... and so on.Overall though it is worth the money, but please please please update with conjugations i could learn so muvh more with them. Thank you very much for the hard work you have put into this App.Mike..."After reading help section of the dictionary i now realise thai has no verb conjugations in the way english does. My appologise for asking you to add them"

Never leave home without this app. - Even better than I imagined it would be. Congrats.

Best Thai Dictionary App for English speakers by a mile - This is so good that I would rarely use any other dictionaries to look for Thai words. Its fast and convenient to enter search word in English, Thai script, or romanised Thai in any one of several systems. I use Mary Haas romanised system since that is what I am used to. Its not necessary to even know the correct tone of words being searched for! Well worth the money. I don't use the other Thai dictionary apps any longer. Very good linkage system and can copy a word to save area. Someone complained it doesn't speak English, but this dictionary is not designed for Thais at all.Still could be improved:Some common speech words still missing (fortunately very few), e.g. "cheunjai" (refreshing). No ability to search for words or expressions containing a word. Must search from first part only.No easy way to extract words looked up to my vocab learning list, even though can copy the Thai word or the English word (one by one). Would be good if application maintained a vocab list itself of user selected entries. History function doesn't work well enough.A must for all serious Thai learners. Who wants a heavy book? From: Micky Mee Panda

So worth $25 - This is exactly what I've been looking for. As someone who is a novice at reading Thai, it is absolutely crucial to have the spoken pronunciation for every word. On top of that, the pronunciations are read loudly, clearly, and slowly, making them extremely easy to understand and repeat. The ability to see all of the different fonts is also a godsend, to which any beginning Thai speaker trying to read signs/menus in Thailand can attest. On top of all that, it is extremely fast.I always find it quite frustrating trying to look up a word in mid-conversation or while listening to a lecture and having to wait for the application to search for it. This app finds the word as quickly as I can type it every time. In sum this app = A++ and is totally worth the $25 price tag.

Exceptional! - Have loaded many different Thai English dictionaries in the past 8 years, on the computer, talking dic devices, iPhone, books, etc. This app towers over them all. Why? Simply because every word (yes EVERY word) has a real spoken pronunciation by a native Thai speaker. There's many other good features for example whether the word is polite, informal, rude, etc, detailed reasons why each syllable is pronounced the way it is,etc. Very, very pleased! Best app I ever purchased.

Great Dictionary with native Thai Voice - It's one of the great dictionary with native Thai Voice. Thanks for creating such a wonderful apps. I hope and believe that it can be a great help for my learning Thai............

Thank you very much for the hard work you have put into this App.Mike...

This app is simply the best - These guys understand making dictionaries for demanding customers. Read their description of this app, I found out it's all true. Forget the other apps, this is the one you should use.

Must have - Greatest app ever!

clear, audible pronunciation - I purchased the dictionary to use as a tourist intending to stay in Thailand on her own for two months. The greatest value lies in the critical personal words included such as toothbrush, toilet paper and help (noun and command). On an ipad the dictionary is visually and audibly clear and crisp. If a tourist were in difficulty, the dictionary can be produced and a Thai person can either listen to the word or see it on the screen. I would think that the dictionary is exceptionally useful to those who are actually learning the Thai language.

Fabulous - So helpful and fun to use with all thai people. Best app ever I use 20times a day. Hard to work out how to change keyboards but benefits still worth it . Learn thai and enjoy sharing your phone with Thais . They enjoy it too. Sometimes so fun we laugh till we cry and Thais remember so don't think you can use English next time you meet.

:p - I've written a review twice and it's not here... F**k you!

Good, but... - Really good concept, works very well, however don't expect to find every word you might find in magazines. Actually I find other dictionary apps more comprehensive in word content, and this app lacks a lot of words you'll find elsewhere. Some commonly used. I've purchased nearly everything from Paiboon, maybe I expected too much, given the content of other publications from them. A lot more words would make this app far more useful.

Excellent program that exceeds being a dictionary - Wonderful application; I remember the author of the app because she wrote two Thai teaching books that I bought 5 years ago. Anyways, this is a great app that does better than a dictionary and in fact attempts to teach the language rules, which is great!Really well designed, with excellent aesthetics.I cannot recommend this enough if one owns an ipad because this is a serious tool to learn Thai. No other reference gives (1) transliteration, (2) reference to word/language rule breakdown, (3) pronunciation in a single package for Thai.Price wise, it's expensive for an app but consider the resource that's available to you; it's empowering.Great job again, Benjawan.

Thai - I have bought most of the other apps, don't waste your time this is all you will ever need. Well done boys well done

Great help - Living in Thailand and learning to speak Thai, I've found this app extremely helpful! It is a perfect companion to Thai lessons, not a replacement. I love that you can hear every word, or type it in English, phonetics, OR Thai!

Quality - You basically pay for what you get here and it's worth it. There are cheap alternatives, meanwhile this is THE real deal. A great resource. 5 stars well earned.

Work great ! - When you need help on the road, very usefull

Excellent dictionary, v user friendly - Hiya, have to write a review as I think this is an excellent app. The phonetic Thai generally works well, and it'sgreat to have a dictionary format where you can hear each word read aloud! The "see it in thai in different fonts" option is also really handy for helping me read Thai on shop signs etc. I'm still just a beginner when it comes to reading Thai, but this is already helping me improve.Khop kun maak kaa!

Wonderful app! - I bought this app after struggling with Rosetta Stone, which is out of date for Thai. I couldn't figure out what actions or things the pictures were showing me, and had no way to look up the Thai, since I don't yet know the alphabet. This is the only app which lets you look up the word in English, or in Thai (if you can isolate the word), or, most importantly, by how it sounds to an English speaker. It has made all the difference. The app is easy to use, contains a ton of helpful grammar information, such as classifiers, lets you play the word, informs about tones. The absolute best app for Thai I have seen so far (and I've been looking!) My congratulations to the team who created it.

Impossible not to 5* - I've been living in Thailand about 8 months and learning Thai for 6. I'm certainly on the "mid beginner" scale - reading Thai slowly and speaking/understanding basically. That said, this app has been invaluable. The translations are accurate, and additional English gloss is always given (so you know which translation of "hot" is spicy/warm). The excellent explain spelling and spoken versions of words really help when you're learning the nuances of Thai reading/pronounciation.I'd ask for faster dict lookups though, it does lag when searching even on an IP4.ขอบคุณมากๆๆ

talking thai-english-thai - uitstekend ; véél meer dan een gewoon woordenboek !

Absolutely superb - We have a Thai daughter in law. This app makes such a difference that I bought my wife an iPod touch so she could have the dictionary. Everything works. The fact that it says the Thai words to you so clearly is invaluable for this tonal language. The range of words is excellent (always want more though). The disambiguation is clear e.g. Which sense of the word 'wear'. If I could dial a development it would be the inclusion of a guide to grammar with some examples

Worth the long wait. Appreciate the care with every click - Paiboon's paper dictionary has long been the clearest and most useful, having English, Thai script and Thai transliteration sections. Their Palm app was great, so I was longing for this iPhone app. After a long wait, it far surpasses my hopes and expectations. No other Thai/English dictionary even comes close to its care and attention to detail and functionality. The depth of functions make it extremely useful for the learner of Thai or English. The handful of additional phonetic letters that Paiboon uses have always made their transliterations so much more precise than other dictionaries, and they preserve that augmented alphabet here, along with super-clear tone rules for every word. I think theirs is the best system of conveying Thai sounds into English. This app maintains the Palm app's speed and intuitiveness, with its predictive text bringing words up very fast. You can look up a word while maintaining a conversation, which is such a breakthrough. So it supports you in the moment, rather than disrupting a conversation while you look something up. This function supports real-life needs and usage, in real-time, as well as rewarding those who want to delve into the details of a word. The ability to hotlink between the 3 different dictionaries makes it incredibly easy to use. Plus the variety of font styles makes it clearer to read signage, handscript, newspaper headlines, etc. The 'words inside' function also gives extra hints about the sense of the word's meaning from its component parts. The font is also clearer than in many Thai dictionaries. And it has a clear vocalised pronunciation for every word.I also like the use of symbols indicating whether a word is formal, spoken only, royal, religious, archaic, poetic, technical, vulgar or offensive. This adult 'rating' approach is far better to the censorship that many dictionaries apply in omitting words that are commonly spoken yet upset prudes who usually get to impose their taboos on everyone. So I salute Paiboon for representing both languages in all their coarse and refined reality. This dictionary is as broad or as narrow as your mind. Many clunky dictionary apps could learn some techniques of interactivity and speed from the writers of this app. Brilliant.

Awesome app - This is an wonderful app plus brilliant design. I wish I've known about it before I bought a robbing reading thai app at 4.99. It's much more than a dictionary, may be a name likes "Thai pocket teacher" is suited for it. I like the way we can get the sound of any Thai script appeared on screen. The "explain spelling" pop up menu is fantastic. 24.99 is a lot compare to other apps. But it is worth your money. Would recommend for those who is seeking a way to learn reading, writing Thai efficiently. I hope they can include a keyboard with customizable Thai font. I am living in Thailand and see lots of Thai words daily but not in basic font. It should be very good if you can enter those words by their written font to look up. For non-Thai like me, it is not easy to map from other fonts to basic font. I also look forward to see their "Power Search" feature. For their road map, I would recommend Thai script recognition via camera, and Thai voice recognition via micro phone. I am using IPhone 4 with iOS 4.2. Thanks the developer!

Number 1 with a bullet - This is the gold standard of Thai -English - Thai Phonetic dictionaries and allows you to look up Thai words by English translation, Thai language script, and the sound of the word in Thai. As well, you can hear a real person pronounce every word in the dictionary and particularly helpful is the word inside feature as much of the Thai language is composed of compound words. You can also look up English translations of Thai words. I've used the pocket sized printed dictionary for years and this iteration is even better.I live in Thailand and use this app every day. It does everything it promises and does it well.Buy it now. This is a must have for everyone who even thinks they may need it and the price is small compared to it's usefulness.

Fantastic! - A really great app! Could not ask for more in a dictionary app.(Being a Thai language student, I'd love to see this app add a "quiz" feature some day, but as a pure dictionary app it is already perfect.)

Great App - This completely blows away all other Thai-English dictionaries on the App Store. To have high quality, native Thai pronunciation of every word is just great! Font sizes are easily adjustable, a real benefit, as in many Thai dictionaries fonts are simply too small to be easily read. The capacity to break any word down into its component words instantly is a huge benefit too. This really helps in understanding how Thai words are put together and saves heaps of time.Paiboon Publishing has scored an ace with this one. It is worth every cent as it is considerably more powerful and useful than Paiboon's similar paperback dictionary at around the same price. Six stars! My only quibble would be that I would make the History file a bit longer.

Traveler - Worth the money.much easier to carry an iPod than a large pocket dictionary.Plus this app has much more information than any pocket dictionary, and try to get a verbal response from a p.d.

So far so good - Finally decided to start learning Thai. I love having a dictionary that can sound out words. For a beginner so far this seems like it will be a very useful tool.

Exactly what I - It's been years that I had been looking for a reasonable Thai-English-Thai dictionary that both works on the mobile phone and in offline mode. That was just not available anywhere, until this app was published. This is exactly what I as a non-Thai need to find my word in every instance. And I was even more pleased to find out about the vast coverage of words which allows you to find basically everything that could be relevant. Great job, and highly recommended!

Brilliant - Clear audio, comprehensive, amazing "real-world fonts" feature, massive scope, helpful breakdowns. Just perfect.Nothing to distract from learning the language. I have no excuse to not learn Thai now, except laziness.

a good product - I bought that dictionary three weeks ago and I examined it thoroughly.

The Best - This app can do everything you could possibly imagine and more. Indispensable for anyone learning Thai, or traveling Thailand. Quick and easy translation in both directions, and in-depth analysis when required. It's a dictionary, a thesaurus, and a thai language teacher all in one. This sets a new standard for dictionary apps. Considering all it can do it's a bargain at this price.

Perfect for the Thai student - I'm taking Thai 101 at a university right now and I need all the help I can get. This app is amazing, it has helped me to understand, speak, read, and write Thai. I've recommended it to all my classmates. In terms of the price, 3 years ago I paid $50 for an electronic Spanish dictionary that didn't even speak! This is such a good deal, it's like having a full-time Thai teacher that follows you around and tells you how to pronounce things. I also love that you can copy and paste Thai words to use in other apps:ขอบคุณครับ Paiboon Publishing!

Great apps, I've used others but this is the best, dii tii sut - This compliments the Thai For Beginners Book too.It is the best dictionary I've used.Used to carry the book around but this is very convenient. Thanks guys.

But there is still room for improvement: The number of entries in the dictionary is not sufficient and sometimes the speaker shows a regional accent in her voice (isaan origin) - so sometimes it is not the perfect Thai voice it could be. Summary: The price is high but fair. The software is great, but the content is far below the level of the real professional Oxford River Books English-Thai.

Truly excellent - A must buy for anyone interested in learning Thai! The price is pretty steep but this is better than any book, as listening to the pronunciation is invaluable.

In a class by itself - Nothing else touches this dictionary abilities that is available today, and I've tried many. It looks up words either in English, or using the transliteration letters in Beckers, "Thai for Beginners", or using Thai script. Once you have the word it teaches you so much more than just a simple translation. With additional resources available after each look up, it shows classifiers to be used with the word, how the word is made, words within the word, and of course pronounces it for you. I live in Thailand and my Thai isn't what it should be. With this program available on my iPhone I can finally get a complex concept across to anyone anytime. Absolutely required if you ever find yourself in Thailand. The price is higher than other dictionary apps, but effectively flawless and function rich.

This is truly the BEST Electronic Thai Dictionary out there! - Well, I have been using Paiboon Publishers' books to learn Thai and they are excellent. I have their paper dictionary as well and it is superb. I have also tried every app out there for the iPhone/iPad and have found all of them disappointing and not really doing the "job" that they need to do for Westerners (or anyone) learning Thai or who need a good Thai-English-Thai electronic dictionary. I have also looked at handheld dictionaries from various manufacturers and none of them really speak Thai itself when looking at any entry! These costs as much as $150-$350.Working with OTHER than TALKING THAI - ENGLISH - THAI DICTIONARYI found that many of the dictionaries do not allow sizing of the windows/fonts of their dictionaries. With Thai, there are sub and super-script notations (up to 2 above and below) that are rather small. When using OTHER dictionaries, the fonts are rather small and reading the super and sub-scripts is impossible! I have had to go to my Paiboon paper dictionary to see them! Also, the fonts themselves are rather small anyway, making many characters indistinguishable from one another as some have subtle script from a hear-shaped curly-q at the top of one and where a line with a dot goes inside of a character (from the bottom or from the middle of the inside left of the character) impossible to ascertain. If I don't have my paper dictionary, I then have to try to copy and to paste the word into my notepad and enlarge the font in order to see the word(s) properly. This is more than frustrating as one should be able to read word entries in a dictionary straight away. If one can't read it, then what use us the dictionary itself. Also, of the few that also provide pronunciation of Thai words, they are extremely limited and even more basic words are not pronounced at all. For a beginner, as I am, this can be a horrible problem as being able to replicate the sounds of a language at the most basic level is vital at the beginning and assures greater success in subsequent study. One other and BIG PROBLEM is the ability to copy and to paste words from the dictionary to a text document (note or whatever), an email, or a database. Most of the dictionaries will not allow one to copy just the word unless one goes back to the Thai-English search window where the word will appear if it is tapped on in the original entry (this was not very reliable, by the way, and was rather iffy at best). It still shows up in the same size and then it can be copied and pasted into another document. One dictionary, when selecting a word to copy, also copies the lined frame around the entry and this frame cannot be removed from the document into which it was pasted without having to type the word in a blank area below as, when one tries to remove the frame, the word is also removed. Oh yes, even the Colllin's Talking Thai Phrase/Dictionary has these same flaws and it costs a few shekels ($3.99). One is just a graphic page from which nothing can be copied other than the whole thing; also, it allows one to email this graphic to others or one's self. How useless! I could go on and on, but I won't.I cannot tell you ALL of the problems that I have had with the other 9 or so programs that I have tried and which left me yearning for Paiboon Publishers to come out with their own version. I also emailed them while they were working on the program and made a number of suggestions. They took ALL of them and remedied ALL of the problems with all of the programs above combined! Yes, this is the GREATEST app so far for the iPhone/iPad. You won't see my reviews of other Thai dictionaries as it is just too much work to do this. You can be assured that you will not only use this dictionary, YOU WILL LOVE IT! So, buy it and tell me that I am wrong! I think that you will really thank me for telling you in an objective manner the full strength of this program and how it truly stacks up against the others: THIS IS A WINNER, BAR NONE!

Great Tool & UI - Very useful, easy to use and much better than any paper dictionary with the clear sounds. The next step in the development would to include sentence structure.

Excellent App - This is one of the best Thai dictionaries available. The phonetic Thai guide is easy to understand and the spoken Thai is very clear. The price is a little high, but worth it if you want an excellent dictionary.

The best Thai-English Dictionary - For those learning thai this has to be the best thai-english dictionary.Key features of note are support for multiple transliteration schemes (although we should all be learning thai script ;-) )Supports the Paiboon series of books - naturally - which are one of the best learning resources availableCan break up words when in thai script to make it easy for those learning to read and writeHas very good sound for the thai wordsAbility to look up how words are built upAbility to type in english the thai sound so that one can find an unknown wordAbility to look up a thai word ( so like the Paiboon dictionary its 3 in 1 )Very easy and intuitive interface ....As mentioned on Women Learn Thai website - you can delete all the other thai dictionaries after this one ;-)Would love if it had example sentances like Thai2English ... but apart from that definitely a 5* Application

The best!!!!!!!! - I bought that dictionary 2 weeks ago and I examined it thoroughly. My judgement: Wonderful, perfect, flawless... a "must-have" for everybody who wants to study Thai language. This products is so much better than everything else in the market. It is not a cheap product, it is a great product and the price is fair. Thanks so much to the people behind that product.

Excellent, 3 ways dictionnary, very helpfull - I'm quite happy to get this 3ways dictionnary English, Thai phonetic, Thai script as I suggested this to Paiboon Publisher last year.Paiboon made it with a really nice User Interface.Really worth the price for Thailand lovers.

Very Very Disappointed ! - Very very disappointed as this doesn't actually speak English!!The "Talking Thai-English-Thai Dictionary" Doesn't speak English ONLY speaks Thai !!!!

Simply the best Thai - English Dictionary - None of the other Thai dictionary apps even come close to this one. After installing this app, I stopped using any all my other Thai dictionary apps. Both the UI and content (Paiboon dictionary data and spoken pronunciations by a native speaker for every word) set a new standard.Have no doubt that this dictionary is worth the price.

Very useful app! - So far I'm finding this app very useful. My only minor gripe is that it is a bit slow to respond when you are typing words. Other than that it is pretty much perfect. Seemed expensive but it is a very good tool while I learn Thai.

A really fine application! - This is really good! I can't think of a better addition to my iPhone!I've tried many Thai dictionaries and this is, hands-down, the very best. No other application has half the features or is easier to use. I highly recommend it for the serious language student.

Very good! - Desperate to find a decent Ipad Thai English dic. This one is truly great. It had a rocky start. It did not find the first 5 words of my wife´s spoken words, but it did with the other 5 after. So a bit hit and miss. The great side of this app is the sheer work it went into it. The choice of pronunciation guides alone is a huge gain over the other dics. The clear Thai voice when clicking play, the ability to pinch the size of the display, the separation of the syllables if needed and overall presentation of the app, was worth the huge price. The other 2 Thai apps have been deleted from my Ipad. This one is a keeper.

Excellent! - Really worth the -high- price!!!

The Best Thai/English Dictionary for iPhone & iPad - If you are only going to buy one dictionary app for the iPhone, then I strongly urge that you buy Talking Thai-English-Thai Dictionary. I downloaded it today and I have already deleted all of the other dictionaries that I have collected. This iPhone app, which also works beautifully on the iPad, has everything that I would ever need from a dictionary. At the moment, we are talking about over 100,000 entries with more than 14 hours of studio recorded sound.Years ago, after I learned the Thai alphabet, I taught myself how to read Thai by reading a dictionary every day. I kept this up for about three months and ended up being able to read easy children's books. Of course, there was no way for me to know whether I was using the correct tone as I didn't have a Thai teacher to practice with. I would have loved to have this iPhone app back then. I would have certainly made good use of it.Buy this app, you will never regret it.

The best Thai-English dictionary period!!! - This is by far the best Thai-English dictionary I have seen, whether on a mobile device, computer, or paper dictionary.I have been trying many types the last few years, and appreciate greatly that this one is finally on the iPhone. Whether you are a beginner or advanced in learning Thai, this dictionary will make things easy to find and understand!Thank you Paiboon Publishing! Great work!

this app is a Godsend! - I absolutely love this application since it streamlines the time needed to find a word and correctly pronounce it during a conversation. For years, I've been slowly learning Thai with the help of the same publishing company's paper back version Unfortunately, the pronunciation for those words was not available so that you can hear the words. Now, it is possible to learn words on your own by repeating the pronunciation of the word as many times as you wish. And, you can look up words in so many different ways that you can give the app to a non-English speaking Thai person and they can find words to communicate with you! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!!!It is an expensive application but well worth the money if you find yourself really needing to know Thai!

Best Thai dictionary - This is easily the best Thai dictionary for the iPad. I have many Thai language apps, including the Collins Thai dictionary. The sound/voice quality is MUCH better in this app. The multiple pronunciation keys and font assistance is also vastly superior here. The price however, is a little silly. I bought this app because I needed it, but I have to say I think it's overpriced. Yes, its by far the best Thai dictionary on the market... But $25 for an app may not make it worth it to others.

Excellent - unique - a real must-have - I used to take the book-version along everywhere I go.Not only is this version more convenient, it is also a lot better.Love the fact that the nouns show their corresponding classifier(s).The sound is of a very good quality. It's easy to use and works fast.Great job of the developers.Hope they will follow up with a system linking the dictionary words to sentences.

Sole Proprietor - Best Thai dictionary app I have seen for iPhone.
